Portrait Photography

Added Monday 16th November 2009

I don't like to do things by half! When I first became a professional photographer in 2003, it was the challenging world of weddings that I most wanted to enter. But you can't be a professional photographer without being asked to take family portraits from time to time. I get asked all the time at weddings, and frequently make arrangements to visit a couple or family later on for a photo-shoot.

I've just, never gotten around to telling anyone else about it!

But a lot of the same skills apply, making people feel relaxed in front of the lens, understanding the family dynamic and playing off their relationships to produce photographs with a sense of life and fun.

Portrait sessions are so much fun for me as a photographer, because whilst I don't get to spend as much time with my subjects as I do a bride and groom, I do get to take their photographs and produce some beautiful pictures in a relatively short space of time, and send them away delighted with the results.

So to that end, with Christmas apparently just around the corner, I put together a webpage at richardshephard.co.uk/portraits:

But it's easier to remember solihullportraits.com.

And as you may have been reminded by our oh-so-subtle facebook bulletin, professional photography makes for amazing Christmas presents, either as prints of you and your family, or the gift of an actual photo-shoot. Freestyle shoots are just £25, or a full white studio shoot is £65, and big prints start from £20 for 9x6 inches.

If like me you're always stuck for Christmas present ideas, please give me a call or a message. Sadly, my family have long since gotten bored of receiving framed pictures of me! If you hurry, we can even print your family Christmas cards.

Fireworks

Added Tuesday 3rd November 2009

Don't you just love fireworks? Especially the sound! I love the great big bangs and crackles and noises. There's something wonderfully simple about the awe that's inspired in fully grown adults as they watch the spectacle. It's an uncomplicated enjoyment of something big and loud and shiny!

This comes courtesy of Dan and Zoe's fab wedding:

And I know this is cheating, because it was new year, but still...

I reckon I've still got about ten weddings I haven't blogged yet. Round the summer I tend to try and focus on getting work out as quick as possible, so there'll be happy, summery moments to enjoy on this blog in the coming months!

I've got particular plans for fireworks this year that I'm rather excited about. Maybe more later! But I hope you all have fun, and stay warm and safe. And Holly, go outside and hold a sparkler. You'll like it!
